Before getting into design research, Castillo earned degrees in counseling and theology:
I'm used to thinking holistically about people. And I in many ways naively just thought that was the norm. And so when I made a career switch into this industry and realizing that while like we have a very truncated understanding of empathy, and in some instances blurring the line between pity and empathy, I started to question a little bit about, OK what do we mean by being human centered?
