It was a case that started a national conversation about rape on college campuses. The rapist was a 19-year-old Stanford student named Brock Turner. To protect her identity, the woman he assaulted was referred to in court documents and the media as Emily Doe. When Brock Turner was sentenced to a mere six months in prison, it set off a media firestorm and two years later voters recalled the judge in the case. The day after the sentencing Emily Doe’s victim impact statement was published and it went viral. We now know that Emily Doe is Chanel Miller. Late this summer, Chanel Miller appeared on 60 minutes and she recently released a memoir titled Know my Name.

On this epsidoe Debbie talks with Chanel about rape culture. “I was astounded by how people seem to treat rape as the given. Saying ‘so why didn’t you protect yourself better?’”
