Announcing the New Places Journal

It’s a pleasure to report that Places Journal has just launched its new website.

From 2009 to 2014, Places was one of the main content channels here at Design Observer, and we’ve enjoyed a collegial and productive collaboration with Places editors Nancy Levinson and Josh Wallaert. On its new, independent site, Places will continue to feature in-depth articles on architecture, landscape and urbanism. You may remember popular stories like “The Irrational Exuberance of Rem Koolhaas,” “Zone: The Spatial Softwares of Extrastatecraft” and “The Emergence of Container Urbanism,” among the nearly 500 articles Places published during its partnership with Design Observer. Now you can find those features at the new Places, which promises to be an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the design of the built environment. Read more about editorial plans and projects here.

Places is kicking off its re-launch with a fascinating essay on the urban design challenges facing Yangon, Myanmar, by Daniel Brook — in a nice coincidence, one of the winners of the Winterhouse Writing Awards.

If you’ve been reading Places through the Design Observer newsletter, RSS or social media feeds, you’ll need to follow Places directly to continue receiving their articles. You can find them at @PlacesJournal on Twitter and at facebook.com/placesjournal, or sign up for the newsletter on their homepage.

Congratulations to our friends at Places as they take this bold step into the future.
