Pete and Florence Mardo, 1923
One of the enduring images of the circus is the clown and the beautiful lady. Here, Pete and Florence Mardo dance among the tents on the circus lot. Mardo met Florence Harris on the Ringling show and they were married in 1910. Part of the “bevy of bewitching equestrian beauties” who performed with the Ringling show, Harris was a “premier rider of leaping, vaulting, dancing horses.”
