The flying trapeze act was developed in France in 1859 and became a favorite circus attraction in America. The Flying Fishers, from Bloomington, Illinois, were one of the early flying acts who, “introducing somersaults, shoot-out forwards, twisters, full twisting somersaults, over and unders, one and half somersaults, double somersaults, etc., etc.,” were part of the Ringling Bros. “extraordinary engagements of world-famous high air performers.”
